About Satika
Satika derives from the Sanskrit word śāṭikā (or “satika”), meaning a “strip of cloth” or a single piece of woven drape in ancient texts. The saree as we know it today evolved from that concept of one unstitched length of fabric.
At Satika, we embrace that very origin: the pure, graceful drape of a beautiful cloth — the “piece of cloth” from which we draw our name and our inspiration.
Our vision is simple: to share the extraordinary textile traditions of India, one state at a time. We begin in the place we call home — Chhattisgarh — with its signature fabric, Kosa Silk. With this launch collection of five sarees in varied colours and distinctive work (Madhubani print, Bastar-art painting & embroidery, hand-print) we honour the roots and reimagine tradition for the modern woman who values heritage and style.
Why Kosa Silk?
Chhattisgarh’s handloom legacy is rich, and among its jewels stands Kosa Silk. Here’s what makes it special :
Origin & heritage
- Kosa Silk is a type of wild silk (closely related to tussar) produced in the forests of Chhattisgarh, spun from the cocoons of the silkworm Antheraea mylitta which feeds on native trees such as Arjun, Sal and Saja.
- The craft is deeply rooted in the Janjgir-Champa / Raigarh tribal belt of Chhattisgarh, where weaving and sericulture around Kosa has sustained communities for generations.
- Kosa isn’t just fabric — it carries cultural weight: revered for weddings, ceremonial drapes and for its natural golden hue and rich texture.
What sets it apart?
- Kosa silk has a unique texture: stronger and more textured than many mulberry silks, with a natural warm golden-brown tone and a subtle muted sheen.
- It is eco-rich and forest-based: the silkworms are wild or semi-wild, the cocoons are collected in forest areas rather than intensive mulberry fields.
- Because of its strength and unique weave, Kosa drapes beautifully — ideal for the modern saree wearer who wants elegance, durability and a legacy embedded in every fold.
Types & varieties
Within the Kosa tradition there are several varieties of saree styles and treatments. For example:
- Plain Kosa sarees in natural colour or dyed.
- Kosa sarees with extra-warp or extra-weft design, dobby/jacquard/‘jala’ weaving techniques.
-
Embroidered or printed variants that incorporate tribal motifs or regional painting/printing.
So when you pick a Kosa, you can discover its texture, its weave, its story — and that makes each piece uniquely special.
Our First Collection
This launch collection honours the heritage of Chhattisgarh through five exquisite Kosa Silk sarees.
Each piece is selected for:
- Rich Kosa Silk base, rooted in texture and tradition.
- A colour-story crafted for today’s wardrobe: from bold jewel tones to subtle, quiet elegances.
- Embellishments or prints that reflect regional art: Madhubani motifs, Bastar art-painting or embroidery, special prints — merging craft and contemporary wearability.
We envisage these sarees as more than clothes — they are conversation pieces. Worn to a festive gathering, an evening out, a special moment — they invite you to carry heritage, not just fashion.
Our Promise & Philosophy
- We believe in craft with purpose: Every Satika piece carries a story of hand-weaving, regional craftspersons, and legacy.
- We believe in sustainability & authenticity: By spotlighting Kosa Silk and the artisan communities of Chhattisgarh we support traditions that are climate-aware, forest-based and rooted in the land.
- We believe in design with the modern woman in mind: Whether you’re draping for a wedding or wearing for an evening with friends, our collection meets you in the now, without losing sight of its roots.
- We believe in community & connection: Satika isn’t just a brand. It’s a gathering of those who care about what they wear — the story, the hand that weaves, the culture behind the cloth.
Why choose a Satika Kosa Silk?
- To invest in a saree that is not mass-manufactured, but crafted.
- To wear a piece of Chhattisgarh’s sartorial heritage.
- To stand out — because texture, story, material and design all combine in a way that modern prints alone cannot replicate.
- To drape yourself with meaning.
Thank you for being part of this journey with Satika. Our first five pieces mark only the beginning. As we expand through India’s states and their iconic sarees, we invite you to travel with us — one drape at a time.
With respect and style,
Satika
